Portfolio

In November and April, we offer PARENT/TEACHER Conferences. Please refer to the school calendar for specific weeks that you may sign up for a conference, in which your child’s teacher(s) will share all this information with you.

Portfolios are purposeful collections of children’s work that illustrate their efforts, progress, development and achievements.

Portfolios serve several important purposes, including:

  • Keeping track of children’s progress, growth and development;
  • Providing in depth portraits of children’s work and thinking;
  • Providing children, teachers, parents, and administrators with essential information about student progress and classroom activities.

A portfolio may include some of the following:

  • Photographs
  • Actual work samples
  • Anecdotal notes/records
  • Checklists for developmentally appropriate objectives (ALL samples must be dated.)

PALS has an appropriate Developmental Checklist for each age group that will track children’s growth and progress.

Areas for checklist include:

  • PERSONAL AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT: This area tracks success in Beliefs about God, Self, Others, and Values.
  • COMMUNICATION: This area tracks success in Listening and Speaking, Reading and Writing, and Creating Rapport and Resolving Conflict.
  • PROBLEM SOLVING: This area tracks success in Investigating Skills, which includes the areas of science and math.
  • GOAL SETTING/DECISION MAKING: This area tracks the ability to make a plan and follow through with it, which will lead to successful students and adults later in life.
  • SELF-IMPROVEMENT: This area tracks the progress of gross motor skills and fine motor skills.
  • PERSONAL HEALTH: This area tracks the progress of developmentally appropriate self-help skills.
  • CREATIVE EXPRESSION: This area tracks the appreciation, creativity, and enthusiasm for drama, music, and art.

REQUEST FOR DEVELOPMENTAL CHECKLISTS MAY BE MADE UPON ENROLLMENT INTO OUR PROGRAM.
